The Nairobi City County is the creation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and successor of the defunct City Council of Nairobi. It operates under the auspices of the Cities and Urban Areas Act, The Devolved Governments Act and a host of other Acts.
The Nairobi City County is charged with the responsibility of providing a variety of services to residents within its area of jurisdiction. These include the services that were hitherto provided by the defunct City Council and the ones that have been transferred from the national government.
The former include Physical Planning, Public Health, Social Services and Housing, Primary Education Infrastructure, Inspectorate Services, Public Works, Environment Management while the latter include Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries, Trade, Industrialization, Corporate Development, Tourism and Wildlife, Public Service Management.The Board of Directors of Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company Limited comprises representatives drawn from various stakeholder groups as shown below.

Guidelines to the Stakeholder Representation:

Representation from manufacturing, commercial, large consumer, and /or Business community as the case may be.
Directors from the County Government where each shall be a professional county also from the county finance department.
Representation from resident organizations based in Nairobi City.
Representation from an organization(s) involved in the advancement of opportunities for women
Representation from organization representing recognized minorities and/ or marginalized interest groups

Hold a degree from a recognized university
Demonstrate experience and acumen in a business or any profession of at least seven (7) years.
Possess skills in finance, accounts, auditing, ICT systems, business management, engineering, law, organizational development. Human Resources or Business planning
Meet the requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on leadership and integrity; and for this purpose, provide a clearance certificate from the Kenya Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) before appointment.
Have a demonstrated commitment of the values and principles Article 232 of the Constitution.
Provide a clearance certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority before appointment; provide a certificate of good conduct from the Criminal Investigations Department before appointment.
Experience in the management of Water related sector will be an added advantage
