Police in Kirinyaga have launched a manhunt for a 31-year-old suspect who allegedly killed his elder brother over a love triangle with their younger stepsister.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the suspect, Bernard Njere killed his elder brother, Samuel Irungu after he confronted him when he found him in a compromising situation with their younger sister last Saturday.
“Benard Njere killed his elder brother Samuel Irungu, 37, in cold blood, after he confronted him when he found him in a compromising situation with their 17-year old step-sister,” DCI stated.
Prior to his death, the deceased who also had an affair with the 17-year-old girl is said to have attacked his brother, prompting a fight.

The ferocious fight that ensued saw the suspect hitting the deceased with a blunt object on the head, face and back causing serious injuries.
“The deceased who also had a clandestine love affair with the 17-year-old and couldn’t come to terms with what he had witnessed descended on his brother with fury, prompting a fierce fight that led to his demise,” DCI added.
The deceased died while undergoing treatment at the Karatina Sub-County hospital.
“Detectives who immediately visited the homestead discovered that the deceased had sometime last year impregnated the step-sister, who experienced a stillbirth in March this year,” a statement by the DC reads in parts.

Another hunt
Elsewhere, detectives have launched a manhunt for suspects who vandalised a railway line in Nakuru.
According to a statement from the DCI, the suspects were found vandalising the Rongai-Solai railway line on Sunday night but managed to escape after sighting officers from Rongai Police station.
Police said the suspects had loaded over 60 rails into a waiting lorry when they were ambushed by the officers.
The materials had been vandalised from the line that runs from Rongai to Kampi ya Moto and Solai. The vandals took off leaving the lorry bearing registration number KCH 646T loaded with the materials.
“The suspects had loaded 65 rails and 120 slippers into a waiting lorry in Burgei village when police officers from Rongai police station accosted them a few minutes to midnight last night.
“But on sighting the officers, the loaders and the lorry driver immediately took off leaving the lorry registration number KCH 646T loaded with the vandalized materials,” DCI said.
DCI cautioned members of the public that vandalism of critical national infrastructure is a serious offence under the current laws.
“Vandalism of critical national infrastructure is a serious offence and the suspects once arrested could face Economic Sabotage and Terrorism related charges,” DCI warned.
