It is now emerging that it was a big blunder for independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati to leave the Bomas of Kenya on 15th of August 2022 and head to his Nairobi home.
According to sources, Chebukati’s security was assured at the Bomas and no sooner did he leave Bomas to head to his home to refresh than it became apparent that his security was on the line. He was forced to call for assistance according to a report by The Sunday Standard.
This is even as it emerge that the then president-elect Dr William Ruto was unable to leave Bomas of Kenya after being declared president-elect for the same reason — security concerns.
His security team was not sure if it was safe for the president, then president-elect, to leave Bomas and head home.
Some of his security team members had been deployed to evacuate some of the IEBC commissioners who had been injured during the fracas at the country’s national tallying centre.
