Kasarani: Mob stones city fire engines over delayed response

Angry members of the public stoned fire engines after a delayed response to a fire incident at Kasarani in Nairobi on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates that the firefighters from the Nairobi County Government were responding to distress calls from the Maji Mazuri area where a three-bedroom mabati house had caught fire.

Officers led by Kasarani Deputy OCS had already arrived at the scene and were helping members of the public put off the fire when the fire engines showed up.

The residents who had managed to contain the fire started pelting stones at the fire engines prompting the officers to intervene.

The police had to escort the engines out of the scene to avoid damage and injuries to the personnel.

Probe into fire incident

Police confirmed that no one was hurt during the fire incident.

However, property of unknown value was damaged and investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.

“The Deputy OCS and Party went to the scene and confirmed that a three-bedroom house constructed with iron sheets was on fire. Members of the public put off the and no injuries were reported,” the police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.
