Man robbing residents using toy gun arrested after dramatic chase with police

A middle-aged man is expected to be arraigned in court after he was arrested over a robbery along Bogani road in the Ngong Racecourse area on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Benson Omondi, who works as a casual labourer was approached by a man on a motorcycle requesting directions as he was walking along Bogani road.

The man immediately drew a toy pistol and commanded Omondi to surrender everything he had to which he complied. He handed to him his mobile phone and the man escaped on the same motorcycle towards Karen.

Omondi spotted police officers who were on patrol in the area and narrated his ordeal to them, to which they gave a chase.

Upon arriving at Lang’ata road, the officers were assisted by their counterparts drawn from Karen police station and managed to arrest the suspect. They recovered a toy pistol, the robbed mobile phone, and the motorcycle.

“The victim spotted mobile police officers from APS/SGB. They gave a chase and on arriving at Lang’ata road, they got support from Karen police officers. They eventually managed to arrest the robber and recovered a toy pistol, the robbed a mobile phone and a motorcycle registration number KMEC 602W Boxer Bajaj red in colour,” the police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.

Similar incident

In a separate incident, police officers launched a manhunt for a gang of three who robbed an Indian national of his mobile phones and Ksh350,000.

The victim identified as Bhupendra Patel was asleep when the trio used a ladder to get into his house through the window. He was woken by the fracas of the gang and saw them escape through the window via the ladder.

“The burglars stole a Samsung Mobile, Apple, Ipad, US Dollars 3,000 and Ksh 50,000. He woke up and saw three people escape through the window where they had placed a ladder,” the police report reads in parts.

The officers arrived at the scene when the robbers had already escaped and the security guard of the apartment which is located along Masaba road was arrested to help them with investigations and will be later arraigned in court.
