Mombasa County Commissioner John Otieno has issued a stern warning to chiefs, assistant chiefs and village elders drawn from Mombasa county who failed to attend this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Otieno, who was addressing Mombasa residents at Mama Ngina Waterfront on Tuesday, December 12, noted that most of his juniors had not attended the national-wide celebrations.

He threatened to take action against those who had failed to attend and ordered a roll call to establish those who were present at the event.

On his part, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir pleaded with the county Commissioner not to use punitive measures but inform his juniors of the need to attend such national events.

“Don’t take tough actions on them, however, teach them the need to attend such events and the roles they play in disseminating information to the grassroots,” Abdulswamad Nassir pleaded.
