The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is now under the Ministry of Transport.
This follows an Executive Order from President William Ruto on Monday, reverting the Authority to its parent ministry from the Ministry of Interior.
The Executive Order No.1 of 2023 effectively reversed an order by former President Uhuru Kenyatta that domiciled the NTSA under the Ministry of Interior.
At the time(January 21, 2019), Uhuru said the move was to enhance and facilitate smooth coordination of NTSA services as its key stakeholders, such as traffic police and prisons, which make vehicle number plates, are under the Interior ministry.

On Monday, President Ruto placed the Authority under the watch of Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Additionally, Ruto’s Executive Order has placed deputy Rigathi Gachagua in charge of the coffee sector reforms.
The President has also put Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in charge of the Government Delivery Services, an agency that replaces the PDU(Presidential Delivery Unit).
Ruto has also elevated their offices, assigning Gachagua and Mudavadi two principal secretaries each instead of the principal administrative secretaries as earlier indicated.
