Nyandarua: Man fatally shot after resisting police arrest

A 46-year-old man was gunned down after he resisted arrest and attacked police officers at Muti Umwe area of Nyandarua County.

Police in a statement said the deceased, Daniel Gikeri Kimani, was to be arrested after attacking his wife with a panga.

“Daniel Gikeri Kimani succumbed to his injuries after he was shot in the left thigh in an effort to disarm him as he had knocked a police officer with a club after they had gone to arrest him for attacking and injuring several people who had gone to save his wife whom he had attacked with a panga,” the statement read in part.

Police officers visited the scene and found the accused hiding in his house when he saw them, he tried escaping through the window and attacked Constable Peter Tuei using a club.

He knocked him down to the ground and gained possession of his firearm, a G3 rifle.

This prompted one of the remaining officers to discharge two rounds of ammunition in order to disarm Kimani.

He was shot in the left thigh near his groin where he succumbed to his injury.

All the victims were rushed to Nyahururu County Hospital where they are admitted in stable condition.

The body of the deceased was moved to the same hospital awaiting an autopsy.

Two empty cartridges were recovered from the scene and are kept as an exhibit.
