Professor Ojienda feted by the East Africa Law Society

Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda was on Saturday awarded the East Africa Law Society (EALS) Anniversary Award 2022 in recognition of his exemplary service to the regional professional body during his tenure as President from 2006 to 2008.

It was during Ojienda’s stint that the EALS filed several public interest litigation suits at the East Africa Court of Justice and won Rulings to influence regional laws and policies.

Ojienda, Senior Counsel is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a distinguished law career and vast experience in legal matters spanning over 25 years.

He has successfully handled numerous landmark cases at the Supreme Court of Kenya, on Land and Environment Law, Electoral Law, Commercial Law, Family Law, and other areas of law.

Over 600 lawyers from across East Africa and beyond converged in Arusha Tanzania, between 23rd and 26th November to discuss business, create networks and keep abreast with topical issues affecting the profession.

The theme for this year’s conference “Fostering East African Unity and Diversity in a globalised practice environment” region was carefully selected to discuss the expansion of the Community, arising opportunities for lawyers and how they can leverage the diversity and strength in numbers to achieve success in an increasingly globalised practice environment

The EALS draws its membership from the Law Society of Kenya, Tanganyika Law Society, Uganda Law Society, Rwanda Bar Association, Zanzibar Law Society, Burundi Bar Association and Ethiopian Lawyers’ Association.
