Here’s what your child will study in junior secondary
Days after President William Ruto’s team revealed that Junior Secondary Schools will be domiciled in their respective primary schools, sources have revealed a total of 23 subjects that grade seven students will take once schools reopen.
According to data obtained from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), grade seven will take a total of 23 subjects. It is reported that grade seven students will have to pick 14 subjects with Mathematics and English made compulsory.
They will also be required to take other 10 subjects which will be mandatory for them. These include; Integrated Science, Kiswahili, Pre- Technical Studies, Health Education, Social Studies, Life Skills Education, Business Studies, Agriculture, Sports and Physical Education
Among the other compulsory subjects will be Christian Religious Education (CRE) studies, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Hindu Studies.
According to the report, selective or optional subjects that students will choose from include; Arabic language, Computer science, French, German, Home science, Indigenous Languages, Mandarin, Performing arts and Visual Arts.
Maths and English are also compulsory subjects to be taught. Each of the lessons have been allocated five lessons per week, while Kiswahili and science subjects were allocated four lessons per week.
This comes at a time when Ruto has ordered for massive recruitment of teachers many of which will be stationed at junior secondary schools.
