Twelve officers from disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) squad were set free after almost two months behind bars. The government, through Kiambu Court released the cops linked to murder of Indian Nationals hired to work with president William Ruto Campaign team. However, the officers have been warned against contacting any witnesses presented in court. They were also ordered to avail themselves for DNA test examination in the Kidnapping and murder case.
Also the specially trained officers were ordered to constantly record statements constantly at DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road. According to court, any interference with witnesses and evidence would attract termination of their bonds.
President William Ruto disbanded SSU shortly after rising to power. He linked the unit with serious murder and disappearances in the country. He thus vowed to bring down cases of extra judicial killings in the country under his reign. The unit was formed by former DCI head George Kinoti in 2018 to tackle insecurity cases in the country.
As they were reacting, Kenyans praised president Ruto for his mercy on the officers. In the meantime, thank you for reading my article.
